Summary
Data sovereignty is preserved architecturally — the egress relay that reaches WhatsApp carries ciphertext only; sessions and message content never leave the customer's own node.

The non-negotiable

Customer data is a core asset held in-house. The system is self-hosted, and no third-party SaaS sees the customer corpus. That is easy to say and hard to keep — the moment a message has to reach WhatsApp’s cloud, someone will ask why the plaintext couldn’t just hop through a convenient relay.

The architectural answer

The design separates where sessions live from where messages exit:

  • Sessions and message content stay on the customer’s own node. The session store, the corpus, the CRM — all of it lives on infrastructure the operator controls.
  • The egress relay carries ciphertext only. The dedicated edge that reaches WhatsApp’s Cloud API never holds plaintext content — there is nothing on it to leak.

Why this matters beyond compliance

A sales team’s customer corpus is years of relationship history. The sovereignty rule is not only about regulation — it is about who can see, train on, or lose that history. When the exit path carries ciphertext and the corpus never leaves home, the answer to “who else has our data?” is no one, by construction — not “no one, we checked”.
